What to send:​

 

• Link to Royal Road and/or attached manuscript (.docx format). Royal Road is preferred if available. If not sending a Royal Road link, please include a blurb (or a book summary) in the email.

 

• Planned # of books in the series (and estimate word counts, if possible. If you have no idea, it's fine.)

 

• When you anticipate the entire series will be finished, i.e. Spring 202X. You can also include info on how many books are completed now, and how fast you're writing.

 

• Info about your general aspirations as a writer. Is this something you're doing as a fun side hustle? Is this currently your full time job? Do you want this to be your full time job? We publish books from people who meet all of the above, so this is just to help us understand where you're coming from.

 

Note: we do NOT expect this to resemble a formal query email (like the kind you'd send to traditional publishers).

What we're looking for:

 

• Full-length novels over 100k words (this is a hard minimum). No short stories or novellas. If a book is not yet finished, but is planned to reach over 100k words, that is acceptable.

 

• Progression fantasy, power fantasy, and Gamelit/LitRPG books. This is the category for such books on Amazon, so you can get a sense for books in the genre. You must state in the email which subgenre(s) your book falls under or we may reject your submission.

 

• Stories with a single main character, such that the majority of the book is from that character’s point of view.

 

• A strong voice and compelling character writing.

 

• Intelligent and overpowered protagonists.

 

• Non-Earth fantasy/sci-fi settings (with the exception of apocalypse LitRPG series, which typically take place on a drastically altered Earth).

 

• We are particularly looking for the following:

  • apocalypse LitRPG,

  • reincarnation,

  • portal fantasy (isekai),

  • tower climber, and

  • cultivation (xianxia).

What we will not accept:

 

• Books previously published on Amazon, in any capacity (self published or published by another publisher).

• Non-fiction.

FAQ:

 

Question: Do I need to have a certain number of followers on Royal Road before you'll consider the book?
Answer: Nope! We have signed books with thousands of followers and books with only a few hundred.

 

Question: How long does it take to get a response back?

Answer: You should always receive a response within a month. Sometimes much sooner (less than a week). If you haven't heard back and it's been over a week, feel free to respond to your email with an update.

 

Question: How much should I have written before reaching out?

Answer: Generally, you should have at least 50k words written before sending in a submission, but this isn't a hard rule, especially if you are not a first time author or have an existing fan base / Royal Road following. To be clear, the expectation is that the finished work will be over 100k words. We are not accepting short stories and novellas.

 

Question: You keep mentioning Royal Road. What is Royal Road?

Answer: Royal Road is a free website where people can publish stories online. The majority of books in this genre (progression fantasy / gamelit / LitRPG) start on Royal Road before transitioning to Amazon. If you have never heard of Royal Road, we highly encourage you to check the website out (and maybe even try putting your book on it!).
